I have been in a business funk for about a week. Getting down on myself because the business does not seem to be going anywhere. This is not the time to give up. This is the time to keep moving forward and do a few changes if necessary. I changed my lead source company and I will keep moving forward. I’m getting close. I know I’m a success already.

Not a good week for me. Heard too many no’s last week. I fell back into an old pattern: afraid of making the calls. Afraid of looking foolish. Thinking that I’m a failure. As long as I make the calls I’m not a failure. My business will only succeed when I take the steps necessary to move the business forward. I’m back on my feet after talking with my sponsor. I’m making the calls again.

Never treat a prospect like a prospect. You know what I mean. Like you’re panning for gold. The “prospect” is your future partner in the business. More on this next time.

I just realized a mistake I have been making for years! Looking at my warm market as potential business builders. I should look at them as customers! No wonder I was so scared to talk to them. Disgusted at making lists. Never treat your warm market and friends as future business builders. Treat them as customers. Don’t force them to buy anything or make them feel guilty. They know people who may need or want your products or services.

How do you feel promoting your business? Or are you promoting it based on the compensation plan? How do you feel about the products? Did you try the products before signing up with the company? Did the products work? Did they half way work? Remember you are representing the company you are with. You want to be honest and help not only yourself but the prospect/partner. Don’t lie to yourself. Don’t “do” the business just for the money. Do the business because the products make you feel good and you are comfortable with the compensation plan. Honesty is the best choice when it comes to your business.

Let’s talk about training in network marketing. Sometimes it sucks. Making a list of 200 people you know or barely know, buying bad leads, advertising (ppc, adsense, adwords) postcards, bad genealogy lists etc. Though it works for some. Not everyone. Definitely not me. What training do I receive? I chose a third party resource. Since I didn’t know how to build a network marketing business, I needed help. Groping in the wind was not working for me. Probably not for you either.
So who is my training partner that takes me step-by-step on how to succeed in this business? Without the hype. Just the Truth? It’s called Leader’s Club. Click on the link and check them out.

6. Do not talk about your business opportunity in the beginning. A major mistake people new to network marketing commit. You talk about your business opportunity after you develop a relationship with your prospect and show them you truly are looking out for their best interests.
7. Listen to the prospect. Do not take this personally. Prospects do not care about you, the business opportunity or the compensation plan. They are looking for solutions to their challenges in life. They want to know if you have solutions to their problems.
8. Do not focus on yourself, focus on the prospect. Yes you are excited. You are thinking about the great products, the compensation plan, how big you want to build your business, and how much income you will create. Yet the prospect is not thinking about your goals. Only their challenges. They are thinking W.I.I.F.M. What’s In It For Me? Ask the prospect questions and show that you care about their challenges.
9. Give away information. The information you give your prospect should be generic. It should explain what Network Marketing is and what it does for people. The information should answer any questions they may have about network marketing.
10. Enjoy yourself. Have fun. Building a business takes time and patience. Keep learning and pass that knowledge on to your prospects. Never give up. You will succeed at Network Marketing.

The image of Network Marketing varies from person to person. Some people view it as a scam or a get rich quick scheme, while others view it as a legitimate business opportunity to create extra income and become financially independent.
No matter what your view is, there exist ten truths about network marketing you must know. (I will reveal five more truths shortly).
1. Believe in Yourself. I know you have heard this many times before, yet it is a major truth. Considering new life challenges require that you believe in yourself and that you take action to complete your goal. Whether it is building a business, getting on the dean’s list, losing some extra weight or learning to swim, it does not matter. Be willing to take the necessary steps to accomplish your goals. If you do not take action, then you will fail.
2. This is a real business. This is neither a hobby nor a “sometime I’ll work at it” business. You will need to ‘pay the price’ for having this business in the form of your money and time. Neither one can be wasted. Starting and building a business is serious. McDonald’s, KFC, Pizza Hut and other successful businesses would not exist using a hobby or partial effort business model.
3. Beware of the scammers. Unfortunately they are out there. They come in many forms: “we will build your business for you, just buy x amount of product and you will be a star, double star, or triple star director.” “Do not worry about the products you just bought, they will sell themselves.” Remember one thing—a legitimate network marketing company offers a product or service to their distributors to use and those distributors offer the same product or service to their prospects to use. The distributors and the company create income from the use (sale) of a product or service, not by forcing you to purchase an excessive amount of product or needless services just to ‘rank’ high in the compensation plan.
4. This is not a “get rich quick” business. You have seen the ads: “Make $10,000 in 90 Days!” “Retire in six months using our system.” We know ads like these are lies. You will not get rich overnight in Network Marketing. It takes about six to eight months to generate some income and about 2-4 years (maybe longer) to create your definition of financial independence. As with any business you must exercise patience and put forth daily effort in building your business.
5. Market your business. Remember the word ‘marketing’ in network marketing? You need two main elements to build your business correctly: belief in yourself and marketing your business. Unfortunately 97% still fail at network marketing. Why? You are not taught how to market your business. Harassing family, friends, and strangers who stand within three feet of you is not how you market your network marketing business.
